Letterpress time: Meg and Lee

1.26.2009

This past Saturday, Jessica and I printed wedding invitations (with matching envelopes!) for Meg and Lee. Jessica designed these with daisies and a color palette of buttercup yellow and a chartreuse–definitely a unique combination of colors that works perfectly for their summer wedding. The quality of the pictures are bad because the lighting in there wasn't very good.

Here is a video of Jessica in action:

RoadNUT goes cool!

1.19.2009

This past year I created a website for one of our client's products.

EarthSearch Communications International, Inc.
provides wireless and GPS-based tracking and navigation solutions enabling businesses to improve their efficiency, adapt quickly to cost pressures, and increase security and safety of operations to a level that has not been done before.

One of their GPS products is called RoadNUT. The company wanted to go the road less traveled and come up with a very risque branding for the product. And with a name like RoadNUT, you can see we had a great time brainstorming all the sexual innuendos...

Anyways, the website has been added to CoolHomepages.com as an example of remarkable web sit design! CoolHomepages.com is the oldest and largest "Best Web Site Designs" gallery online. Check it out here!

When there is passion, there is violence...

1.14.2009

(?)

Apparently, my second drawing in this week's class exuded a sort of violent passion. You be the judge...

Is this really a figure drawing class or an artsy psycho-analysis class? But I guess you can really tell how a person's feeling or "figure" out their personality through their drawings or art or music. I really don't think I'm a violent person...passionate? I think I'm too laid-back to be passionate about something, but maybe I show my passion for something through drawing naked people instead of words? Or maybe this violent passion is coming through because I'm at a difficult time in my life? Who knows? It's really interesting how people read into just a simple 45 minute drawing of a man and woman and psycho analyze your whole relationship with a significant other.

We won't have class next week because of MLK, so you will have to wait for two weeks to read about my next analysis.

Flower Power

1.06.2009

Check out these cute versatile flowers my friend Leslie made me for my Christmas present! I finally found something to put them on, but you never know what else I can put them on...shoes, purse, a skirt...Thank you Leslie! And to think, I was going to sell this gap shawl to Plato's Closet. If you want to see where we got the idea from, go here.

Strike a Pose

My first new year's resolution is on it's way: taking more art classes to get back to my roots as an artist. I feel as being a graphic designer, I have been pulled away from the hands-on experience as an artist.

Jessica, Wendy and I signed up for Figure Drawing Classes at the Abernathy Arts Center. We took our first class this week and will be doing this once a week for the next 7 weeks!

Stay posted for more drawings...hopefully they get better as I go!

Fun Tagging Game: 6 Things About Myself

1.04.2009

Tag Time: 6 Things

I saw this fun little tagging game on AsianCajuns:

The Rules:

1. Link to the person who tagged you.
2. Post the rules on your blog.
3. Write six random things about yourself.
4. Tag six people at the end of your post and link to them.
5. Let each person know they've been tagged and leave a comment on their blog.
6. Let the tagger know when your entry is up.

6 Random Things About Me

1. I love potatoes...Tortilla de Patatas, french fries, mashed potatoes...
2. I hate running, but I just bought a pair of running shoes and I've done three 10ks in 2008 and I just signed up for one in April.
3. I love to travel. One of my New Year's resolutions was to travel to one place once a month this year.
4. I'm addicted to chapstick. If I were on a stranded island I think one of the things I would take with me would be chapstick...and maybe my hair straightener.
5. I like to be tan 24/7, 365 days a year.
6. I love watching Jeopardy.

My 6 people:
1. J. Whoa
2. The Ashleys
3. Smart Cookie
4. Memoirs of a 'Gee
5. DJ Chopstixx
6. P & J Invitations

Goodbye 2008, Hello 2009

1.01.2009

The holidays were pretty low key for me this year...I don't know if it's because of the economy–somehow now-a-days, the depressing economy seems to be the scapegoat for everyone's problems, joys (?) and overall situations in life–or if it's because of personal issues I have been dealing with. The holidays are just not the same for me, but I'm pretty sure the spirit will pick back up once or if I have kids...basically, when kids are in the picture, the holiday spirit seems to be in full force.

2008 has definitely been a year of ups and downs, both personally and professionally. It has been a year of contemplation, travel, tears, laughs...you name it. I think I've experienced every emotion possible this year. It's hard to say whether this was the worst year of my life or the best. We'll see what happens. Maybe in a couple of years–if I can hopefully remember 2008–and say, "2008 was great!" I think I'll do a recap of each month and decide whether or not 2008 was great based on my happenings that month. Oh and I have to tell you that I think I probably traveled every month this year...something that I will probably try and keep up for 2009

Overall: So-so

Seems like the overall feeling of 2008 is so-so, but I think my Spain trip might outweigh all those so-so months. I guess I can be optimistic and just be thankful for good health, family and friends.

Goals (and yes I do say goals not resolutions) for 2009
1. Take more art classes
2. Be in shape and run more
3. And most importantly to be happy

I think those goals are pretty reasonable and reachable. I've already signed up for figure drawings classes and they start on Monday! I've already signed up for the Bridge Run in Charleston in April and I'm working on the third goal. I think it can be done...slowly but surely!

Looking forward to a healthy and optimistic 2009!
